Psychic Synchronicities
I don't use my blog for this kind of chat, but I believe in all sorts of things, including several facets of what most would categorize as psychic phenomena. What I'm about to discuss is commonly referred to as synchronicity, but these are a type of synchronous occurrence that I can't suss the relevance of. Yet they're too bizarre to be mere coincidences -- and they've all happened within the same time frame: I experience a specific thought and within 30 minutes I see or hear the main element of that thought somewhere else. I'll give you a few examples (and I may keep adding to the list):
1. A week ago I was watching an episode of The Wire. Carver and Hulc were talking about which man they'd be willing to have sex with into order to get to have sex with their ideal woman. I paused the conversation to go get something from my kitchen. From nowhere the name Weezie came into my head, as did the theme song to The Jeffersons. When I got back to watching the show, a few scenes later they were back on that talk and Carver said, "Man that wouldn't even get you Weezie Jefferson!"
2. I was cleaning my kitchen a week or two ago and for some odd reason I thought about that guy who was selling his teakettle on eBay and forgot to put clothes on before taking the picture. I haven't heard of, or thought about, that guy for eons. When I was done cleaning I took at look at twitter and someone had posted a link in their tweet. I never click on links unless I know where they are going, but this time I clicked. It was that exact eBay photo of that guy.
3. Someone else on twitter recently tweeted about having just seen the Ghostbusters film for the first time. When I went to bed, the novel I've been reading actually made a reference to the film. And then the next day I saw another comment on another blog (which I'd never read before and can't remember how I found it) talked about the film too.
4. On my way home from shopping tonight I started thinking about the people who were so early signing up for Gmail that they managed to get their own names. For example, Bob@gmail.com. I was going to tweet about that and I was going to use the names Bitch@gmail.com and Wanker@gmail.com. But when I looked at twitter, I was stunned to see that someone had just tweeted about Bitch and Wanker teacups.
5. I wanted to buy an audio download from Amazon.com and when I tried to purchase it redirected me to Audible.com, which I'd never heard of and didn't want to sign up for (and didn't). The next day, Audible.com started following me on Twitter.
I've got more of these. And I've got other strange things I experience on a regular basis, but those make more sense. Normally synchronicities are useful in some way. Like, say, you don't normally eat Chinese but feel compelled to visit Wok n Go at precisely the time the man of your dreams is also arriving. Those things serve a purpose. Mine appear to just be strange.
What about you? What synchronicities (odd or otherwise) have you experienced?
xx Isabella

13 Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest:
Like you, I experience similar things. The only ones I can think of at the moment are the old standards (knowing who's about to call before the phone rings, for example). The one I find most useful is knowing when someone I'm waiting for has entered the building I'm in, or my love has turned onto our street.
And then, of course, there was my surprise to discover exactly the kind of practical, informative article on empaths I was looking for (via a Google search for that very subject) was written by you, when I'd subscribed to THIS blog the day before! :)
Stuff like that happens to me all the time. Humming a song and turn on the radio only to find it playing? Yeah, that's me.
Here's one example recently: I was at a baby shower for a co-worker that I wasn't fond of, but I got suckered into going. Turns out that I end up winning one of the games, and I received a beautiful candle. (Instantly justifying this party.) When it was time to have the expectant mom open gifts, the hostess would set a timer. If the timer went off while Mommy was opening your gift, you won a door prize. I tell the hostess, "Make sure you grab my stuff right off, so that the timer won't ring on my gift." She laughed it off because there were plenty of presents to go through. Sure enough, hostess took her time. When my gift was brought forward....DING. Her jaw dropped. My shoulders shrugged. What can I say? I tried to tell her.
Welcome, Rowan! I've never had many of the phone call type, but that bit about subscribing here before you found an article I'd written -- yeah that's exactly what I mean. But at least the article was useful to you; I don't see any usefulness in the one's I'm experiencing. Maybe they are but I don't know how...
KendallJaye -- LOL maybe that was to teach chagrin you for not being keen on the hostess. The radio one I've experienced a few times, but not too often. Maybe cos I don't listen to it much anymore... but I can't imagine what purpose that serves, either??
Hmmmm
Well I have what mos would call De Ja Vu from time to time, or what I call it anyway.
sometimes I will be doing something and think I have seen this scene before from a 3rd person perspective.
I think some people look for these things more therefor notice them more, I'm not sure it doesnt happen to everyone and more put emphasis on it more than others.
Deja vu is something else entirely, and it definitely has its purposes. But what I'm talking isn't about paying closer attention, cos it's always a big surprise when I realize it's happened. But regardless, not everything can be a coincidence, it would defy physics, maths and all logic. ;-)
Wow. K this is something.
My best friend growing up....her mom had this thing. She always "knew" stuff, along the details that you describe here. Kinda amazing...really.
She was an empath and it sounds like you are too. Very, very cool!!!!
I have to say I experience stuff like this all the time, tho I can't think of anything now. I'm also an empath, so maybe that plays into it.
That happens to me sometimes and it can be pretty random things. I'm not sure what it's all about, but I find it fascinating.
Weezie Jefferson?!?! How odd and funny is that??
SG -- Hmm, you could be right, I dunno. It's mostly irritating cos I don't know what the point is! ;-)
BTV - Welcome! Like I said, not sure if being an Empath has anything to do with it, but I guess it could. Just want to know what the point is supposed to be!
Heidi -- Yeah! I had the song pop right into my head! And when they mentioned her on TV, on a show like that, I was just like, "Whoa..." like some stoned hippie. ;-)
I'm actually a highly in-tune person. So these kinds of things happen to me all the time, just the way you mention them.
Something that never fails: if I've been having trouble getting writing time, the character names from my book will show up the next day in paperwork at the office. The characters in the love triangle are Robbie Flynn, Helen Slaunwhite and Elkanah Bent. The action takes place in Cheltenham, England and Tasmania (actually Van Diemen's Land.)
So I'll get a birth certificate for Mr. Flynn/ another person born in Cheltenham/ a marriage certificate with Ms. Slaunwhite/ teaching verification signed by Mr. Bent. All in the same day.
Or, in a similar way, I've cast Robbie as looking and sounding like Ewan McGregor, and Helen as Keri Russell. So I'll be struggling along with my manuscript, and I'll go upstairs to say something to my mom and glance at the TV. Either Ewan McGregor or Keri Russell will be on the screen. Always.
Yes, that's the sort of stuff I mean. But yours seems to have a clear purpose!
None, that I can think of. But you can be sure that I'll notice them from now on.
Very cool.
These kind of things happen to me constantly. There are no such things as coincidences (have you ever read The Celestine Prophecy?) The more you open to receive the more the Universe will orchestrate things towards your highest good. So remain aware of the little things - as you obviously are - and you will see the bigger things start to happen.
Well, that's my two cents on it. :-) I just found your blog and love it.
